Sought worldwide for his expertise in plant-based nutrition, food scientist Dr. Mazza is an innovator in the science of plant bioactive extraction. As Chief Scientific Officer at his namesake company, he has identified and evaluated bioactives for our extracts, enabled us to pioneer the PhytoClean™ technology, and helped launch innovative, plant-derived ingredients.

Driven to improve health and quality of life through his plant-based research, Dr. Mazza has published more than 200 research articles, five books, and more than 30 book chapters for the Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals Book Series he founded. He was named by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) as one of the world’s most cited and influential researchers in Agricultural Sciences in 2004 and 2014. While his legacy in food science is firmly established, it is the more recent technology he developed as a Principal Food and Bioscience Research Scientist at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada that will have the most far-reaching social consequences.

Dr. Mazza, together with Dr. Carl Pronyk and Eduardo Cacace, created and patented an innovative, green process to recover high-value bioactives from plants. The revolutionary potential of this next-generation green technology sparked the genesis of Mazza Innovation.
